Bouteille de Gin Anaë

What is a French Gin?

France is no slouch when it comes to spirits. Distillation is deeply rooted in our traditions, and in recent years, gin producers have shown incredible dynamism. Unsurprisingly, they were a hit, driven by the cocktail trend and consumers’ attraction to made-in-France products. But how do you make a French Gin?

Unique terroirs and know-how

Between azure coastlines and rugged mountains, lush forests and fragrant garrigues, rainy or sun-drenched climates…France boasts an incredible mosaic of terroirs. This potential has been exploited for generations by passionate farmers who have passed on their exceptional know-how. All the botanicals needed to make gin are produced here: aromatic herbs of all kinds, flowers and fruit of all kinds, spices in a thousand colors and scents, and of course the inevitable juniper. It’s only logical, then, to draw on the region for many or all of the ingredients needed to create your very own French spirit.

As well as sourcing their flavors in France, the distillers behind French gins are also based here. Our country has a long history of stills, and it would be a shame not to take advantage of it. Cognac, the queen of this category, comes to mind, as does Armagnac, its southwestern cousin. As for the Bretons, they have become masters in the art of whisky. Proud of their roots, today’s distillers are inspired by them, adding their own personality and a touch of modernity. The most committed even go so far as to give preference to French partners for the smallest details of their bottle production.

Anaë, an artisanal, organic and French gin

Such is the case withAnaë, an organic Gin happy to proclaim itself French from start to finish. Starting with grape alcohol, the basis of its aromatic identity, as well as being an undisguised tribute to our winemaking heritage. It is distilled by hand in a Stupfler alembic and contains quality botanicals from independent growers. The program includes juniper berries, cornflower blossoms, lemon thyme, chamomile, lemon verbena, coriander seeds and fenugreek. And let’s not forget the wild maceron from the Ile de Ré, a local berry nicknamed “marsh pepper” that adds depth, complexity and freshness.

Each of these 8 ingredients has been carefully selected and is certified organic by Ecocert. A recipe that honors the richness of our terroirs, treating them with respect by imposing a sustainable process and offering a floral, balanced and spicy Gin with superb vivacity. This commitment requires daily work and a qualified team guided by a quest for excellence. All distilled and bottled in Charente, in a container also made in France. Strong convictions and authenticity.
